Liftgate won't open- '99 Blazer

My rear lift gate will not open, nor will the glass hatch. I forced (I know - mistake) the glass open, but now it will not latch. any ideas where to start? both the keyless entry and the dash hatch release make the latch pop, but gate wont open and latch wont close!

Unhappy 99 liftgate problem clarification

OK, to clarify, I need info on getting into the door panel. all other threads I have read talk about tail gates (fold down) and have access screws. on the 1999 Blazers with a LIFT gate, there is no screws. I know there is the emergency release, but I dont want to do permanent damage to the rug or molding. The window is open but the door is stuck shut, so I can't see if ther there is access around the edges.
Any ideas on opening the lift gate? thanks
