Dead Battery; battery indicator light on...

Howdy, I have a 97 blazer. Just the other day the battery indicator came on and then today it went dead. Needed a new battery anyway so I put a new one in however the battery indicator light is still on. Sounds like I need a new alternator? any help would be appreciated. dano....

I think its pinned to the far left -9? or I may have to check it but I think thats it...

The battery really has no bearing on the voltage gauge.

If it was all the way to the left, replace the alternator. Do NOT drive it like this.

BlazerLT, where is normal on this gage? Mine normally stays from center to 1-2 ticks left of center.

Well, depends on if you started it up or it has been running for a while.

When cold starting it up, it should be really close to 14, and when warmed up, it should be with 1-2 ticks to the left of center.

As alternators warm up, a voltage drop is completely normal.
