What should I do. What are the basics on my car? Like you know how the hondas have H22 b15 and such, what about these DSMs? Thanks!

I don't quite understand what you are asking. Are you asking what type of motor you should swap to or you asking what type of upgrade should you start with????????

Is it the N/A laser rs?

Laser turbos have the 4g63..thats it, no real swaps for us. 1g N/T also had a N/A 4g63. Be wary posting newb questions like this....we hear these alllllll day long and get bored quickly so do yourself a favor and research your car a little before you start asking questions. Figure out what you want with your car.

first thing you need to do is, sell the car! get somthing worth putting money into. why buy an older car (excluding classic muscle cars) and put a lot of money into it when its not worth it? how much horsepower does a 91 RS have? 150? idk, but i do know that to put a turbo that cost 2000-2500$ you will only end up with 215hp to the wheels or somthing in that nature! when you can go buy a newer car(not brand new) and spend just as much as you would on the turbo and car, for the same amount of horsepower! then you can add power to the newer car!

Hey Pimp boy, you're telling him to sell a '91 laser, which we don't know if its turbo or not, because it's old? Your profile says you drive a "1923 Ford Pickup (Other)". Am I the only one who notices something wrong with this?

Pimp, FYI, there are 3 trim levels for the Plymouth Laser. There is a base laser (nt), a laser turbo, and a laser turbo awd. The Lasers don't have seperate trim names like an eclipse has rs/gs/gst/gsx.

So, don't make suggestions like that unless you are sure of what he has. And to derfzog, you really should have told us what trim your laser is so we can help out.

This guy is a joke. You have no idea what you are talking about, so I suggest you stop spitting your opinion all over the place right now, and read up. If it was a turbo laser or awd laser to begin with, that car has a lot of potential and can be very fast.

BTW, not everybody has thousands of dollars to sell their car and get something newer. Lasers are very rare cars nowadays, and just to sell it because its "old" would make no sense.

And after reading your profile, I think we should :banhim:

OMG wtf....I didnt even talk shit to anyone....all i said was my opinion, and asked him a question! jesus chrisT! what is wrong with stating an opinion.....

but overall.....do what you want with your laser or whatever.....its your car, do what you want, dont worry about what other people want, its cool to get ideas, but if someone like me says somthing about it, (not everyone is going to have the same taste as you) you guys are gonna have to learn to understand that! I have free opinion, and thats waht i did was state my opinion!

So i dont see what the big deal is!

Why the hell are you even in the E/T/L forums? You obvioulsy don't know anything about dsm's, so until you do how bout not giving any advice ok? And for your info, if he does have a 4g63t 2500 dollars can get you a new turbo, exhaust, intake, I/C piping, bov and some fuel upgrades....possibly more. And with some decent tuning 300whp will be easy.

Also, the laser did not have AWD until 92, so you either have a 1.8L base coupe, a RS non turbo 4g63 DOHC, or FWD turbo 4g63.

Sorry about the delay. This is a Turbo. not naturally aspirated. I could swear this is AWD but you guys know what you are talking about. I'm DEFINATLY not one to talk about stuff that I dont know about like some people. I know i dont know a whole lot. thats why i joined this site.

Im pretty sure the lasers say it, but i know the talon and eclipse will say AWD on it, on the bumper i think? Either way thats good news that its a turbo. The first thing you will probably want to do is just read up as much stuff as you possibly can about your car. I think these two sites are really helpful.

www.dsmtuners.com

and

http://1000q.dsm.org/

that site probably has every question you could ever have about your car. Good luck with the car, i am sincerely jealouse of you and every dsm owner here v_v

- Try and get some pics of the car too if you can!

This is the kind of newbie that we like to see. Props for not being a asshole. Well, be very gald its a turbo, you have a world of possibilities, but never take the advice of certain cretins who were recently banned or anyone like them. Its good to ask questions, but watch out for totally newb questions, we get em all the time and don't like it when people can't use the search function. There is a very....lol VERY simple test to find out if you are awd.....rev to about...ehhh if you don't know what you are doing maybe 3.5-4k and let the clutch pop! if you burn rubber all the way thru first, then you are not awd.

Check out the upgrade path on dsmtuners.com lots of good info there, but the first step on any dsm 1g or 2g, is intake, or at least the filter. K&N is the way to go, F.I.P.K is the best out there and for $120 its cheaper and better than all the other stuff....

Welcome to AF. :smokin:

Is the engine name 4g63? I believe it is. I looked it up after someone here told me it is. So far I have gone to slowboyracing and found the following parts for MY car:

Eibach Springs
Scat Connecting Rods
Ross Racing Pistons
HKS Cams
MSD DIS 2 Channel Ignition
DSM Coil on Plug Setup (WHAT IS THIS!?!?)
(need help finding exhaust

totals to 2315.00

Thanks!

Whoa Whoa Whoa......what are you looking to accomplish with this car? If it is speed wise, that would not be the wisest way to spend $2,300. Tell us what your goal is, and we can aid you in the right direction.

O.K getting a litttttle ahead of yourself there buddy. First off, have you even raced him in your RS yet? Its a helluva lot faster than any cavliler

First off.....you don't need any suspension work at all...actually dsms require very little to run 11's and lower. Have you gone to dsmtuners.com and read the guide yet? I would suggest you do that before buying anything. You have a 91 so you have the best 4g63 for eclipses, its rock solid. Figure out your HP goals before you go and buy pistons and stuff like that. Putting in those parts would get you....almost no hp. For 2.3k first get a k&n f.i.p.k then look at turboback exhaust from someone like thermal or custom exhaust shop exhaust, 3" mandrel is best. Stock block is good for ~400hp before you need to worry about internals so I wouldent build the motor until you really have to....get a FMIC, F.I.P.K exhaust, fuel pump, some injectors and a bigger turbo with some sort of fuel management. But first off, before anything get a boost gauge the stock one is not accurate at all. With some shopping around for some used parts, a 16g turbo and a tune can get you over 300whp with supporting mods. And don't blow up a perfectly good 4g63 engine.....you won't make much power past 5500 with the stock turbo so try not to redline the car and blow this engine too, ok?

The upgrade path for a 1g turbo suggests 275-300 hp for 2g's.

You don't really need a high flow cat....or one at all for that matter

:iceslolan

you don't need a new turbo manifold, but a 2g manifold will bolt right on and flows better so see if you can find one for about $50 and maybe port it a little. Other than that, the upgrade path is proven so stick to that

Seriously, wtf does this have to do with anything? You obviously don't know much about making cars fast if you call it "importing them up".

ok seriously he just asked a question. just cause you know shit about your cars doesn't mean you can be assholes. he had questions and i'm not sure but i think thats what a forum is for (just to make sure i'll check the dictionary). About your car i'd say go with intake and exhaust as your first things, mostly because they are cheap and easy, also check you motor mounts, we just changed my friends (prothane polyurethane mounts $80-$100 for the kit) and they were terrible on his 91 talon. if you want lots of power next would be turbo, fuel pump, front mount intercooler, turbo, injectors, fuel pressure regulator. but i have a feeling you just want to do the miner stuff so get an intake and exhaust and if you still have some cash get intercooler pipes, blow off valve (if you want the 1g bov should be good for your goals). just have fun with the car and welcome.

Before you do any of that, make sure the car has a tune-up. Plugs, wires, fluids, timing belt (if needed), etc.
