Unhappy Changing plugs in V6 Tacoma

V6 Tacoma
How do you get the spark plug boots off of the V6 in my 2001 Tacoma? I pulled and twisted and yanked, but they are still stuck on. One on the passenger side had a hard plastic boot, I used pliers on it but all I did was break the boot! Is there a clip, or lock, or a special tool needed?

Search around in here. It is for a 2003, however they both use the 3.4L V6. Good luck!
