hey, I've read some other posts about speaker installations, but I just have a few more questions. First off, is there any way i can put in new speakers in the back without removing the back seat? Like maybe cutting through the back panel and mounting speakers on top of it? and the front speakers, do i have to remove the door panels or can i just pop the grills off and mount them in there that way? thanks a bunch.

Well, as far as rears, you are IMO making more work for yourself than it worth. Not to mention the loss of trade-in due to the damage that will occur from cutting the back panel. It not very hard to lift out the rear back-cushion and then the panel to access the rear mountings.

As far as the fronts go, I not sure, but I think the grilles are permanent-mount to the panel, and the panel has to be removed for acces to the door speakers.

Yes you have to remove the goor panel. the grills will not come off. as for the backs i don't know, but i too will find out soon b/c i've got 2 amps, alpine 6x9's and some subs coming in.

i bit the bullet and just took out the back seat, pain in the ass, not too difficult though. removing the seat, the door trim and all that other crap is a pain. however for two new Pioneer 3-way 6x9's, it was worth the effort. Now, can anybody help me with removing the door panels? ive read some stuff about screws being under the reflectors and stuff, but thats not for a '98. i dont wanna go yanking stuff off and then not be able to get it back on. I have power windows and locks, and the only screws i see are in the handle that u grab to close the door with. also i have a small tweeter (i suppose) on the panel too above everything, so any help would be appreciated on how to do this.

The door panel is easy to remove. On the '97, there is one screw under the door edge reflector (pry it off and look for it), and two screws by the power locks switches. Remove all three, and pry off the trianglual plastic 'sail' panel above the door panel and ahead of the window glass. Then use your fingers to gently but firmly disengage the plastic clips that run along the sides and bottom of the door panel, and lift the panel out vertically to disengage the top clips. The speaker is mounted in a delco tray made specificly for this opening. I mounted a 5 1/4" 3 way Sony in each door by copying the shape of the tray onto a piece of plexiglass, and cutting out the hole for the speaker in the plexi.

It is one nice thing about the GA, that with not alot of effort, you can put in a very ince set of aftermarket speakers.

Yeah, Crutchfield is a damn good company for that. They may ask a few bucks for their installation manuals if ya don't buy the speakers from them, but honestly, they seem to be very competitive in their pricing, and their tech- support is top-notch.
