New Z4skiphill 04-23-2002, 03:08 PM My wife is itching to sell our '96 328ia and buy a new Z3--until some idiot with few smarts told her to wait and buy a new Z4 "when they come out in October." Can anyone give me details about this car so I can do some research? I want to make sure she is heading down the right road in regard to this new car purchase idea. jinushaun 04-23-2002, 11:42 PM Z4 doesn't make sense. According to the new BMW numbering system I've been hearing about, a 4er is a two-door 3er coupe. So the Z4 = Z3? (Four-door z3 would be weird) But the new Z3 is coming out this spring. Here some pics I've found. The Z4 looks alot like the new Z3. Same car? http://www.car-action.com/technote/board/IMAGE_0203/upimg/1015499610.2 jinushaun 04-23-2002, 11:44 PM After searching Google, I'm convinced that the new Z3 = Z4. This would follow BMW's new number system. Vertigo 04-24-2002, 02:46 PM the front of it reminds me of the Audi TT Cbass 04-29-2002, 01:28 AM Hmmm. I'd rather have the Z5. 240hp 4 cylinder, 2100lbs or so. Also plans for the M3 I6 making 360 hp. http://bmwheaven.bmwsport.net/news/z5/z5_silver_front.jpg http://bmwheaven.bmwsport.net/news/z5/z5_black_side.jpg Cbass 04-29-2002, 01:34 AM Your Z4 there bears more than a passing resemblance to the new Z3. Is this a production car? I have a subscription to Road & Track and haven't seen anything about a Z4. http://bmwheaven.bmwsport.net/news/z3/newz3_red_front.jpg http://bmwheaven.bmwsport.net/news/z3/newz3_black_side.jpg http://bmwheaven.bmwsport.net/news/z3/newz3_red_back.jpg I get the impression the Z4 is just the prototype 2nd gen Z3, or vice versa jinushaun 05-01-2002, 03:15 PM Originally posted by Cbass Your Z4 there bears more than a passing resemblance to the new Z3. I hear alot about the new BMW numbering system, but nothing directly from BMW (ie: a production 4er or 6er). When I was searching for the z4 on google, I notice that a lot of them were non-English sites. Who knows. XZLR8 05-06-2002, 02:10 PM I think "Z3" is the new ragtop and "Z4" is the new coupe.... mattsbeamer 05-09-2002, 10:54 AM I think it's a lovely design. Can't wait. PookJP 05-23-2002, 04:46 AM AutoWeek (http://autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek&cat_code=carnews&loc_code=&content_code=04980831) has an article on this. Here's what it says, but you should go look at the good spy photos. When is a Z3 not a Z3? When it’s a Z4, of course. Starting with this autumn’s Z3 replacement, BMW will adopt a revised naming system for its cars. As a result, sedans and wagons from 2004 onward will retain the familiar odd number designations— 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series. Meanwhile, all upcoming coupes and cabriolets will get even number designations, the first being next year’s 6 Series, while today’s popular 3 Series becomes a 4 Series in 2006. The future could hold a keenly priced 2 Series and a follow-up to the discontinued 8 Series to fill out the range. Where does this leave the Z3 replacement? According to high-ranking officials at BMW’s Munich headquarters in Germany, it will be rebadged Z4 when it makes its world premier at this September’s Paris motor show. All of which begs the question: With a Z4 and Z8 in the lineup, is there also going to be a Z2 and Z6? We hope so. Vertigo 06-27-2002, 01:36 PM Not sure if these pics have been posted before but today is the first i have seen of them full side, rear and interior views of the Z4 pics here (http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=000923) hermunn123 06-27-2002, 02:54 PM i'll do Vertigo the favor and put the pictures up here. http://www.haaahahaha.nl/renault/bmwz4/bmwz4_1.jpg http://www.haaahahaha.nl/renault/bmwz4/bmwz4_2.jpg http://www.haaahahaha.nl/renault/bmwz4/bmwz4_3.jpg Vertigo 06-27-2002, 03:19 PM Thanks:D So what do you guys think? hermunn123 06-27-2002, 07:04 PM i really like the look of the interior. it's real clean. aannndd i also like the aluminum.... looks sexy. the rest of the car is pretty nice too, could be better but defenitely could be worse. Ando_Rules 06-27-2002, 08:53 PM inside looks amasing guy nice car man, i didnt know they were comin out wit a Z4 hermunn123 06-27-2002, 10:08 PM the Z4 is just the succesor to the Z3. BMW is changing all sports cars to even numbers(Z4, 6-Series and such) and all sedans are odds(3, 5, 7... duh). Ando_Rules 06-28-2002, 09:56 AM oh ya right thanx for telling me dat info see cus i didnt really know that PookJP 07-08-2002, 11:44 PM I don't love its face, but I like the rest of it. I particularly like the integration of the BMW roundel on the side. It is placed perfectly between those crease lines. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
