93 Grand Cherokee 5.2 ignition coil problemsdonk23 06-30-2005, 06:59 PM We have had to replace the ignition coil on this jeep many times in the 7+ years we have owned it. Started out once every 6 mths or so and has gotten worse. The jeep has 199000 miles and has about that many coils replaced on it. My wife has become quite good at replacing them, as we always carry at least one spare at all times. Recently the jeep started cutting out a little bit and over several thousand miles got real bad. Mainly just cutout around 2000rpm. Replaced distributor, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, coil. and the problem quit. Then it got bad again after about a month and lost two coils in 1 afternoon. Help! My wife loves her jeep!!!! I may be sleeping in it if I don't fix it. Cam7 07-02-2005, 04:53 AM I know this sounds basic check the wirring to the coil there could be a wire shorting out to cause the failure. Another theory is the pcm might be causing the coils to premature failure. I have heard of this happening on other vechiles. It sounds more like a short in the wirring. Check the wirring comming in and out of the Dist. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
