thats exactly what it does... seems to stall when stopped at a light and it seems to be right about 30 minutes of driving. then it will start right back up and stall when put into drive, until it sits awhile then its fine for awhile again...
I replaced plugs, wires, air filter, cleaned the AIC, added fuel injector cleaner, reconnected a disconnected vacuum line and it still stalls after awhile.

Thanks for the location info and the color helps alot.

The soleniod is located behind the side cover on trans. If you go and get new solenoid and then remove the side cover you will see which one it is. It is not hard to replace at all.

Yeah, ignore Kamasaki, that's just a sensor that controls the solenoid.

You'll have to pop off the valve body cover to get at the solenoid. Do a search and you'll find instructions I already typed out to someone.

Well I took Kamasaki's advice and it looked just like the one on my El Camino so I disconnected and took it for a test drive and drove for over an hour without any issues at all.... and usually it stopped after 30 minutes, si at least this is a very good sign... more test driving tomorrow for longer and further.
Thanks to all for your suggestions

Good job, you've just elimated your torque converter lockup. Take it out on the highway and you'll notice a HUGE gas difference.

The part is cheap, go fix it and stop beling lazy.

first of all I was disconnecting to see if it corrected the issue... if it did then I did plan on replacing the part. but why replace it if I'm not sure that is the issue? other things I replaced on the car needed to be replaced anyway.

Thanks for the concern about my gas mileage
