HB with a SWAP goes down!!civicx_xracer 04-21-2002, 04:38 AM What's up all! Just wanted to post a quick kill of mine because it was so great. Now, I've beat cars faster than this but this was special because the guy was totally talking smack before we raced. Me-93 civic ex coupe(SOHC vtec) against a 95 civic hatch with a B-16 swap. We came up on this stop sign and my friend was with me and was like, "You guys should race." My window was down and so was the other guys so I know he heard my friend. So I was all, "But I don't wanna lose." So the guy revs at me and we take off. I stayed a full car lenth ahead of him all the way through third before we finally shut it down. Later he pulls up to the dunkin doughnuts we were at and was all, "I wanna rematch. I was starting to catch up!" I just laughed at him. Granted, I have a #ell of a lot more stuff done than him but it was still funny that he thought he was all that and got taken by a SOHC that weighs way more than his car. Now this guy is trying to get into our car club but I don't think so. kidrocket 04-21-2002, 02:34 PM list your mods 89ssgti 04-21-2002, 05:52 PM Originally posted by kidrocket list your mods before we raise the bs flag on you:eek: kidrocket 04-21-2002, 11:13 PM i tried to make it as nice as possible and give him the benefit of the doubt crxlvr 04-22-2002, 03:47 PM this is gonna turn ugly real fast:eek: Tom_S8 04-22-2002, 03:55 PM Originally posted by crxlvr this is gonna turn ugly real fast:eek: Hmm... that's what I thought....:finger: civicx_xracer 04-23-2002, 01:02 AM cai/h/e, plugs, wires, pullies(all), fuel rail/regulator. Basic bolt on:D I'm not going futher than that because if I did then thare would be a bunch of civic's that are as fast as me...why would I want that. Raise the flag if you like but stop and think...there is a lot more to an engine than just bolt ons. Most of the power comes internally and that's why I'm not getting specific..it just means that I know how to work on my car. But it's cool. I can understand why you wouldn't believe me since there's prolly 20 b.s. posts for every one actual kill. And I'm not saying that with a different driver that the car wouldn't beat me. Like I said, the guy just got the car so he prolly didn't know how to drive it good yet. It was just great cuz he thought he could. But out of couriosity, why would you guys say this is B.S.?? It's not like I said I took a viper or something. I don't have a problem beating lightly modified Si's so why would a hb w/a Si engine be a problem? kidrocket 04-23-2002, 11:47 AM because with only telling us IHE, plugs, wires, pullies, and a useless fuel rail, people dont believe you. A hatch with an Si motor will be faster than a lightly modded Si coupe depending on the year Is it some secret in your motor? is honda testing its new superI-VTECTECTEC? I think ill post how i walked on a WRX and then not tell anybody what ive done to my car jOYRiDe 04-24-2002, 01:55 AM why bother listing mods? sounds to me like u beat him cos he's a shit driver. that is all. Kaneto 04-24-2002, 02:52 AM Numbers mean a lot on the boards. Yeah, driver skill means a lot in real life... but it's hard to measure driver skill. And, unfortunately, most drivers out there are pretty much universally unskilled. Granted there are a lot of exceptions... but they are just that... exceptions. Therefore more often than not, it comes down to numbers. And basically, the numbers say that a 127hp car will not beat a lighter 160hp car. Generally, the mods you listed add like 20 hp... and that's being pretty optimistic for a 1.6L SOHC. 147hp still will not beat a lighter 160hp car. I'm not doubting you. Like I said, driver skill means a lot in real life. I'm just explaining why people are so ready to throw up the BS flag. Particularly when you get as much BS as this place usually gets. civicx_xracer 04-24-2002, 05:03 AM As stated in my last post basic bolt ons is not all that I have done. A lot of it is knowing how to properly tune your engine for the specfic mods that you do have. And yes you are correct with the fuel rail being useless but it all plays into a part of the over all picture. Like I said, I could really give a s#!t less if you don't believe me or not but for anyone that does read this that has a D16z6 and think it has no potential, think again. In fact...I was just reading an article about a 5th gen. hatch w/a D16z6 with i/h/e, running high compression(12:1 I think) with a 60-shot of nitrous and pulled a 13.2 So are you gonna raise a flag on one of the biggest import tunning magazines in the country???? So why not share the knowledge. civicx_xracer 04-24-2002, 05:30 AM Well you would be suprised at how much even the little things can help your performance. I don't know if you have a honda but for all you honda owners...when is that last time you had you valves adjusted? Timing adjusted? Or even checked your throttle cable??? You wouldn't believe how many peoples cars our car club works on that the damn throttle cable is about to fall off! I'm not saying I know everything but every car that our club works on is at least a little faster by checking the important things that are overlooked. And these things are easily done in an afternoon. I have spent the last 3 years of my life learning about my car so I'm not going to sit here and do peoples homework for them. There are numerous magazines, manuals, handbooks, tutorials that are easy to get a hold of if you wish to make you car faster. I'm not going to explain what your valves should be set at for optimal hp. I'm not going to explain why your intake manifold needs to be port matched. I'm not going to explain what good a valve grind does. All the answers are out there so they will have to look just as I did. ricodemus 04-24-2002, 08:38 AM You probably feel that someone is cheating if they post a question and it gets answered, but some people may not even know where to start to accumulate the knowledge you have. If the people with knowledge don't share, it's like the blind leading the blind. The more you help people, the better this board is. I don't drive a Honda(anymore), but I still love coming here because the stories are good, and there's always the opportunity to help someone else out. I don't claim to know everything there is to know about cars, but I do know a pretty good deal, and I enjoy the chance to share at every opportunity. (besides, how else are you supposed to get your post count up:D :D j/k) Reguardless, I think that is the main purpose of online forums. Granted, this isn't the technical forum, but if someone posts a question I'm more than happy to help them out any way I can, even if it's nothing more than pointing them to the place where the info they need can be found. And I think that most here would agree with me. kidrocket 04-24-2002, 12:38 PM IM not saying he didnt beat the dude. I just want to know what hes running to give me a better idea of how it was achieved. 97teg 04-24-2002, 03:34 PM BTW, how much does a valve adjustment cost? or can it be done at home? i'm at 65k miles, so i'm sure doing it would help. civicx_xracer 04-26-2002, 02:16 AM I'm sure every area is different but here in Alb. NM you can go to the Honda dealer and have them do it for about $150. Seems like a lot but it is a huge help. And realize that if you are driving hard all the time or racing this is something that needs to be done every 30,000 miles FBP Si 2000 05-09-2002, 06:01 AM Can I race you? I'm sure you can beat me also since you can beat a B16 hatch... :D Just messing around with ya...good kill...anything can happen... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
