I have a snap on box Huge chest I am planning on having someone paint with Kameleon, but I would like to do some prep first so I can learn as I do this project. The tool bax had some dents that required pulling off the sides/drilling and removing spot welds and will require rewelding together. My question is "how do I prep the box especially around the welds and bare areas with brands of filler, putty, grade of grit paper, and primers to work with this expensive paint for a professional result?

I would prefer to not have to sand blast or chemical strip the whole box to do the job but I want it right!

if the dents are not major,use something like evercoat metal glaze to smooth them out.The metal glaze will feather out nicely and hide well on the flat surface of the box.When you get all the dents worked out,you may dab alittle etch prime on the bare spots to be safe.if you plan on priming the whole box,buzz it down with say about 180 grit on the DA and spray a couple coats of prime.When you get to this point,it is time for some block sanding and then sand it say 600 grit wet and your ready for sealer,basecoat (black),kameloen kolor and then the clearcoat.

Wow kameleon on a tool box. Did you happen to price that paint at all. You may change you mind if you haven't already.
