erg valve cleaning

my 2000 windstar has carbon buildup in it not sure how to clean it i got a check engine light and autozone told me that i have a misfire in cylinder 2 and erg valve needs replacing after some research i think that it just needes to be cleaned anyone know how to do this and what type of cleaner i need to buy any info would be helpful thank you all and god bless

If you have a p0401 or similar code, basically any P040X, you probably need a dpfe sensor. We have never cleaned an egr valve on a windstar at the dealership and I can't remember ever replacing one. Call your Ford dealer, we recalled a lot of these sensors, yours might be one. You'll talk to them anyhow since the aftermarket does not make one last time I checked. The EGR rarely causes cylinder misfires, though...it might be time for a plug or wire to number two as that isn't uncommon. Good luck with it.

Using the "search this forum" box, plug in your codes, and behold. Theres what you're in for. Not catastrophic, but the answers are all there. Typically this involves tearing down the intake manifold and wire brushing the egr ports. Very cheap to do, but requiring a weekend of your time if YOU do it. Need more info? Just post.
