Employee Pricing isn't something to feel bad about - on Silverados.
Greetings,
For all of you who either bought a used Silverado or a new one last year - and now have heard about "employee pricing" - don't feel badly. We're all subject to wishing we could be the one to get the cheapest pricing. And we're all curious to see "how much cheaper" could we have gotten it
So tonight - I stopped at a very competitive dealer who is a "no dicker" dealership for many years now - after hours when they weren't open. The price posted is always what they'll do - and nothing different - you can talk till you're blue in the face - no change. All this advertising from GM about "employee pricing plus ALL the incentives" turns out to not be as good a deal as it was to buy back in July or August of 2004 from my experience when I bought. I looked at a new 2005 extended cab LS tonight. MSRP $30,947 employee price after all incentives - $23,347.
Not a bad price to be sure - but mine was MSRP of 32,952 and price after rebates for me in August 2004 was 24,150.
So - if you're looking to buy new now - you'll probably do pretty decent - but if you bought early this spring - late last year - or just think the advertising sounds like you really missed out on a big deal this summer - don't sweat it - you probablydid as well then as you could do now - for me - I'm glad I bought when I did - what I did

Yep, everyone tells me I should just STFU and quit bitching. I got a good truck at a reasonable price with everything on it that I wanted (with the exception of alloy wheels). Seriously, it has everything I wanted to get in one of these. Except a bunch of go fast parts

I've heard next Chevy is just going to lower the price to be close to what people pay after all the incentives. That way you will not have to pay tax on 32,000 when you buy it for 24,000 like I did last year.

I agree 100%. It's just another incentive program not unlike the last ones. March madness seemed to be even cheaper with more rebates.
I still couldn't have gotten an HD for anything close to what I paid for my used one, so why waste time with coulda woulda shoulda?

How 'bout used, I sell cars for a living and I just sold my nephew a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado LS Crew 1500 4X4, 5.3L automatic, with 12,000 miles for $24,000 even.
This thing still smelled 'new' and was a beautiful truck.
So what if it has 12,000 miles, I still consider that new and at a substantial savings even considering the employee discount. All the new dealer incentives are usually just smoke and snake oil. If you REALLY want to save, buy low mileage used.

There you go...straight from the horses mouth. I spent 20 years at car dealerships and believe me, no matter what the "sale" is, they get their money back one way or another.

Just an FYI related to this, these are the best deals I have seen on the last 15 GM trucks purchased over 3-5 years. In MA my friends walked off the lot for 31,120$ with a brand new quad cab 2500 Chevy black with cd and most options. No plow prep or blinker in mirror. still not bad if u you what a Diesel 2500 goes for around here.

That's a good price. Too bad about the negative equity though. I've been that rought before and it's not a good thing.

Well, if you think about it, he really didn't. Dealers are very good about this kind of thing. They were working with new vehicle pricing as well as trade in value. They give a great deal on the new one and recover their money by sticking it to you on your trade. it's a numbers game.
If there is no trade in involved for them to steal from you, the new vehicle price is usually higher. Same thing when buying a dealer's used vehicle. You can negotiate a better price if you are not expecting them to make you happy on a trade in.
Hate to sound cynical, but after two decades at dealerships...

i was told the price of the truck before i went to even go look at it they had to get it from another dealer becuase i had to have blue, so i made sure i could afford it before they went to go get it.the price of the truck was like 31k with 4k rebate that was 27k and the gms price brought it down to 22k. they will show you the invoice that clearly states gms price before you buy the vechile.plus the dealer makes i believe $1500 on every gms sale anyway and they sold my 04 trailblazer for 3k more than they gave me for trade in.

Here's a recent CNN article about this topic:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/AUTOS/tipsan...tes/index.html
Quote:
Vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado diesel or Cadillac XLR convertible, both of which usually sell at close to sticker price, are now available at prices you couldn't have gotten through negotiation a month ago, says McCready.
The Silverado sold, on average, for $34,739 in May. Under the employee discount program however, consumer could buy the same vehicle for $31,423 -- a savings of $3,316.
