Talking got out of another one

So last night my friend and I have nothing to do. So we decide to go down to the city at like 2am.
We're cruising along the highway, and as always, cruising = high rates of speed.
So as we are doing in the area of 110, we pass what we think was a cop. My friend says it is, I say it wasn't. Well guess who was wrong. A mile down the road we have those all-to-familair pretty blue lights in our rearview.

We pull over and the cop comes up. We do the normal thing, give him the paperwork, try and chitchat. He asks us if we know how fast we were going, and we said "Obviously alot faster than we should have" He says, "I clocked you around 80" (wtf?) So yeah, we talk some more and he goes to his car. 24 minutes later (I kid you not!) He finally comes back. Throughout this whole time, we were confident...but the fact that it was taking so long, also made my friend speculate that they were waiting for a towtruck to impound the car.

He comes back and gives us a ticket for the familiar "failure to obey a traffic control device" (for those of you who don't know, that is a $100 slap on the wrist/no points/non-moving violation) We thanked him and went back on our way...TO FIND SOME RACES!

Re: got out of another one

I don't think that I have sped within 3 days of being pulled over ever. I am too poor to be stupid.

Re: got out of another one

lol ... you didn't say, "Gee officer, you should have your equipment checked out since I was clearly in triple-digit territory."

If I had to guess, he did not even clock you ... he made a visual assumption you were speeding and pulled a number out of his butt. That might be why he gave you the slap-on-the-wrist ticket since he could no verify your actual speed.

I'm just guessing and talking out of my butt as well.

Couldn't you just have shown him your automotive forums moderator badge and said hey pal, don't ticket fellow officers

I think you called it.

nice going being let off but play it safe remember luck runs out and that will hurt next time hes at his car for near half hour a truck might come

not to sound like i'm on a pedistal just saying dont want you to lose your ride.

Bursts of speed are nice but cruising at triple digits just yells ticket me.
