My sons 93 Escort AC control in dash does not work. The AC light comes on but it does not turn the AC on. What might be wrong?

IF the fan isn't coming on check the 30 amp heater fuse in the passenger compartment. If it is coming on check the 10 amp fuse marked A/C in the engine compartment fuse box in front of the battery. If the fuses are okay there probably isn't enough pressure in the system to allow the clutch to engage in which you will have to take it to a shop and get the system recharged with freon. On wagons or any model that has a rear wiper there is a 10 amp fuse marked rear wiper in the passenger compartment that controls the clutch but if your AC light is coming on that fuse is good.

there's also a resistor under the passenger side of the dash that frequently goes bad in these cars, I discovered it while covered in sweat jiggling wires and cussing, jiggled it, a/c came on. replaced it, no more probs.

I will check it out. I took it to the shop. The compressor is OK and gassed up. The switch is still not controlling the A/C on and off.
Must be this resistor or something in the electrical else where. I'll let you know which it is.
Thanks.

Follow the A/C lines to the firewall... where they come together you should find the A/C cycling switch (I wish I knew my A/C parts better... this is the top of the accumulator? condensor?). It should be easy to pick out... unplug the switch and jumper the ends of the plug together to bypass the switch. Start up the car and turn on your A/C. If your compressor comes on, replace the switch.

I'll check it out.
