Sup guys,

I recently installed a Pioneer head unit using a harness to snap into my 99 Eclipse Spyder factory Harness. I noticed that the tweeters are'nt working. Now I know they will have to be replaced soon because as I understand it they wont last long However, for the interum until they are replaced how do you connect the tweeters to work on a aftermarket head unit?

Thanks

There are 2 3.5" tweeters on the top of the dash, right after that small lip under the windshield. They came stock on a lot of models.

Crazzy, I've been trying to do that but dont think im doing it correctly. How do you do it?

I cut the 4 wires for the front speakers, then used a connector to connect the right+ from the cd player to the right+ of both speakers and so on. I ran the door speakers through the wiring harness though.
Basically, take the right+ etc. wires, cut them, then take a connector and attach the cd player wire to the wiring harness again, the same way it was stock, but then add the corresponding wire from the tweeter into the connector.
I ran the wires for those speakers myself because I had no clue where the stock wires were. It was really easy because you can just drop a wire down and find it by looking through from the floor.
This was before I had an amp powering all speakers.
Hope this helped

They really arent tweeters. They are 3.5" speakers. If they are the stock ones, dont even bother with them, just unhook them and get some good 6.5" compenants for up front and up the new 1" or 1.5" tweeters in your door with a hole saw. It will sound and look waaay better

Should I run the wires from dash speakers (tweeters) to the front speakers directly or should I connect it to the front speaker wires that come from the head unit?

I ran them to the head unit because its a lot easier

have you already tried to make them work with the aftermarket head unit because you shouldn't have to do any special wiring to make them work. It's my understanding that they run off a connection to the front speakers.

Yea, there's no sound coming from them. I've read somewhere on a forum that whenever you install a aftermarket head unit the dash speaker will not work.

I have been looking at mine ever since I read this, and think I have it figured out:

It depends on how you hook up your aftermarket head unit. If you cut all the wires and the stock wiring harness off and reconnected all the wires to the wiring harness for the aftermarket head unit, you will not have power to the dash speakers unless you split the front speaker power wires with the dash power wires going the the head unit. Most shops that install head units don't do this.

The other option is to buy an adapter that you can just clip onto the stock wiring hearness that can plug into your aftermarket head unit on the other end. (male and female ends). That way, all the wires are re-routed in the adapter, and all the speakers should be recieving power.

Please feel free to correct and/or add to this, it's just a thought. I'm looking for the adapter right now, and will check radioshack tomorrow.

When I bought my car the cd player in it was professionally installed but the wires were cut and all that. I does have the factory plug though. Well, I just plugged it into my new cd player and they didn't work so I just cut it and split it. Now the wire goes from my amp to the wire for the doors on the wiring harness and there is an additional wire coming off for the dash speakers. sounds confusing just reading it, i'll try to get some pics.

Ok I just finished looking at how it was all wired up.

Well my system has all mids and highs and it is very loud! But now I see that I ran the Wire from the amp to the door speaker but I branched the dash wire off just before it got to the door speaker wire.

There you can see the amp wire going to the door wire (connected to wiring harness) Just before it gets there the dash speaker wire ties into it. If you are talking about running the dash wire from the cd player then yes you can do it no it won't be loud. It really depends on what wattage door/dash speakers you have because you cd player is probably right around 45wx4. If you have door speakers higher wattage than this obviously if you put it and the dash speaker on one line it won't be loud at all.

As you can see here http://img246.echo.cx/img246/3853/ampwires5ti.th.jpg (http://img246.echo.cx/my.php?image=ampwires5ti.jpg) I have 6 speakers going to one 750w amp and believe me it is loud!

The only thing I have going to my cd player are these http://img246.echo.cx/img246/1552/tweeters2sj.th.jpg (http://img246.echo.cx/my.php?image=tweeters2sj.jpg)

Here I pulled the wire from the left dash speaker down so you could see what I did. http://img246.echo.cx/img246/56/leftdashwire0sx.th.jpg (http://img246.echo.cx/my.php?image=leftdashwire0sx.jpg)
