help with these CEL codes

went to autozone to get it checked out and their OBDII spit out a couple things.

P0400 - The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the exhaust gas recirculation flow.

I'm almost 100% this is because of that nipple that broke off of the EGR solenoid.

P1104 - MAF ground malfunction.

NO clue what this means. Could i have a bad MAF or a faulty ground wire?

P0170 - The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel compensation valve for bank 1 exceeded the specified range. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank).

WTF does this mean? I'm clueless with these last two codes. Any help would be great. Kevin, where are you! lol

Re: help with these CEL codes

Find the pinout for the maf plug, and see if the ground pin is grounded. I have no idea if it is supposed to be or not, but might as well check. Look for a pin that got pushed out of the connector, broken wire, etc. Also ohm out the wires from the pin at the connector, to the pin at the ECU. The vfaq has a pinout for the ECU end, for the maf end try the vfaq or instructions for the 2g mas conversion in a 1g.

An inline motor only has one bank of cylinders, so every code will be bank one. In this case, the fuel trims in the ECU are maxed out. If you are on stock injectors this is usually a dead O2 sensor. But I have to wonder if the MAF issue isnt causing this too. I'd have to think about that more.

Re: help with these CEL codes

ok, now this is a bit weird....so earlier today i manually grounded my MAF. found the ground wire and grounded it to the body of the car.....reset the ECU, a little later the CEL came back. took it back to autozone, and this time it showed the same code as before P1104...but this time it was saying "Air flow metering". the guy had no idea what it was. so i was lookin around on the internet, and i found this.... http://www.troublecodes.net/mitsu/

near the bottom of the page, it says P1104 means wastegate solenoid. i don't have it anymore because i have a hallman MBC....from all of the other threads i have read, no one has got a CEL from disconnecting the stock BCS. what's going on here?

Re: help with these CEL codes

I remember hearing 5 years ago that unplugging the solenoid would cause problems. I always left it plugged in, even though it was not being used. If you still have it, give that a shot. I can't remember if I ever disconnected it, so I can't say from experience that it works fine with it unplugged.

Re: help with these CEL codes

well damn....that was the problem. found my old solenoid and plugged it in, ran the car all night and the CEL hasn't come back yet! good shit. thanks for the help kevin.

EDIT >> i fixed that nipple on the EGR solenoid too....took a small drill bit to it, then found a plastic nipple and JB welded it in there. doesn't budge it's no longer throwing out that code for the EGR flow anymore.
