Want to Disable Automatic Door Lock FeatureJagmeister 07-15-2001, 07:30 PM Is there any way to disable the automatic door locking feature on this beast? Have gotten locked out several times and am sick of it. This is on a 96 Windstar GL Thanks, Heep 08-19-2001, 07:46 PM Sorry I took so long to reply...we also have a Windstar in the family with the horrible auto locks. You can just take your van to your local dealership, and they can use their computer to disable the feature. Jagmeister 08-23-2001, 12:12 AM I eventually broke down and took it to the dealer. They said it was no problem but they fooled around with it for two hours and finally announced there was no way to disable it. Even tried to charge me for it. I've given up. Heep 08-23-2001, 09:12 AM Hmm...that's odd... I've successfully disabled the auto locks on the newer style Windstars, but I can't say I've ever tried on the older Windstars, but they should be pretty well the same if not exactly the same. MOJO 09-02-2001, 11:56 PM The dealership can disable the autolock feature on a "96 Windstar. The problem here is you are dealing with some techs that are just ignorant of how to do it, or just too damn lazy. Shouldnt take more than 30 minutes to have it done. I would try a different dealer. Patj 08-05-2003, 05:33 PM Okay... for those that say the dealership can do it- tell us how they are to do it and how much it should cost. If it's "just hooking up to the computer..." "30 minutes..." then you should be able to tell us. Stopping into a dealership with no knowledge of what we really need is playing into their hands. There isn't a single reader out there that doesn't know EXACTLY what I mean. Give us a leg up and we'll be better prepared. Isn't that what this forum is all about? Patj IF THAT YEAR USES THE GEM MODULE AND YOUR OWNERS MANUAL DONT SAY ANTHING ABOUT TURNING YOUR KEY ON AND OFF SO MANY TIMES TO ENABLE OR DISABLE CERTAIN FUNCTIONS:AUTO WINDOW DELAY,TURN SIG BEEP ETC.I DONT THINK YOU CAN DEPROGRAM IT. Postal_Flyer 10-02-2003, 04:49 PM I don't know if this will do it or not but I have just been through mine while installing a sound system and I noticed that under the driver seat is a pair of wires connected to some thing in the bottom. I don't have electric seats so I would venture to say that because the automatic locks only work when some one is in the driver seat that this is a pressure switch which makes the automatic locks work. Almost the reverse of the pressure switch on a riding mower where it shuts off if you get out of the seat. meckanec 11-04-2003, 11:12 PM Is there any way to disable the automatic door locking feature on this beast? However, if you are like me and don't have that, you need to take it to a dealership. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
