Tach, MPH gauge, Trac, ETS, etc.

97 Grand AM SE, 2.4L, 5-speed, 85,880 miles

Hello and thanks in advance.

I just had the condenser? replaced in my car to fix the AC. Now a week later I'm driving down the road and the tach, speed gauge both start jumping around and then both quit, going to zero while I'm doing 45mph.
The ETS, TRAC, Check oil, feul warning light, low coolant all come on during this. Before I got home, the tach, mph guage both started working and all warning lights went off. Has been doing this intermittently for last couple of days.

My daytime running lights aren't working anymore, and the lights don't come on automatically at night. During the day my high-beam light blinks unless I turn the lights on. I don't really care about the running lights or the lights coming on automatically at night, but that flashing highbeam light is getting on my nerves. Is there anyway to disable that?

Check your body control module as it controls most of the functions you list. It may have gone bad or the connections are loose. As far as the DRL's you could probably disable it by removing the DRL module under the dash. But I don't recommend it.

Could you tell me where the body control module is please? I'd like to check the connections myself.

With the DRL? I noticed that the flashing high beam light didn't start until I released the E-brake. Could I possibly jumper whatever connection releasing the E-brake activates?

Your drl module reads a signal from the e-brake, with the ebrake on it tells the module that you are not going anywhere, so you don't need the lights on. Check inspection laws in your area, I know here in NH if you disable drl's they will not pass your car..

Unfortunately I am not sure exactly where it is located on your car but I would look under the dash on the Left hand side. It should be a rectangular box usually brown or black in color.

Ok, so I went out to try and locate the body control module. Still not sure where that is btw. Disconnected the ground on the battery. Reseated every connector I could under the dash, and wiggled the ones I couldn't disconnect.

Started the car and now... Temp guage, Feul guage, MPH guage, and Tach all don't work, as well as warning lights of ETS off, Check oil, coolant and low feul light, all are on. (temp and feul gauges are new symptoms)

Has stopped being intermittent and is happening 100% of the time now.

When I first turn the key, all the guages move slightly, then nothing.

almost sounds like a computer problem, most of the sensors for the gauges run through that. might be time for a trip to the dealer or anyone who can read the computer.
