1999 Cabrio, new battery, radio not working

I just bought a 1999 manual transmission Cabrio from a used car dealership. They replaced the battery and now the radio does not work. The manual for this car is missing. How do I get the code for the radio to get it to work?

A VW dealer that I called told me I'd have to bring it in, they'd take the radio out and rewire it. Does this seem right?

Re: 1999 Cabrio, new battery, radio not working

You have to have a four digit code that was in the manual. You can find the code entering sequence on this forum, but the dealer is the only place you can get the code. If you want to save some money you can pull the radio & get the serial # off it and bring to the dealer along with the car's VIN. That way they should only charge you around $30 to look up the code on their system.

Thank you for the information. I made an apptt with the VW dealer in my area and he will input the code for $65.00. (Everything is very expensive here in California!)
