Yukons 3rd brakelight. New technology?Dave Carpenter 05-27-2005, 11:58 PM Has anyone had to replace their 3rd brakelight. The roof mounted one.The one on my 03' Yukon was discovered to be out while in for its scheduled service @ 38,000 mi. I have the extended warranty with $100 deductible. They said they have to replace the fixture and all, at a cost of about $200. My last service was at 35,000 mi., and for all I know, it could of went out before 36,000 mi., and not of costed me anything. I'm still driving my 75' GMC K15 pick-up that I ordered in 74', and when a bulb in the tail light, turn signal, or brakelight goes out, the turn signal indicator light on my instrument panel lights steady instead of blinking when I signal to turn, letting me know I have a bulb out on that side. I still have to look to see if it's the front or rear bulb that's out, but at least I know I have a bulb out. Beats having the law let me know. So much for new technology. It looks like a straight forward fix, as long as I don't have to get into the headliner. I looked back thru all the threads, and didn't see any previous questions of the same. pbsfolks 05-28-2005, 12:50 PM Dave: I had the part of the center high mount brake light go out in my 2001 SLT, GMC replaced mine under the new car warranty @ 35k miles. If you have a phillips head screw driver, you can fix it yourself, open rear doors, or lift the hatch , there are 2 screws at the base of the fixture, remove them, unplug old fixture and replace with the new one and fasten the screws. You dont have to mess with the head liner as the screws go into the door frame of the rear hatch. Im not sure how much the new fixture is but Im pretty sure its gotta be less then $200.00. You may want to check the circuit going to the light itself, its got LED bulbs in it, its very rare that you would burn out all of them at once. When mine was replaced it only had 3 bulbs not working in it, but the rest were still lit.........Hope this helps, good luck..........Mike :grinyes: cornbuzzard 05-30-2005, 10:57 PM The 03' may have LED's in place of bulbs in your high mount stop lamp, if so, you will have to replace the entire lamp. My 04' has LED's. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
