whistle / ringing noise at idle ??

I have a 93 with a 2.4L engine and I am getting a engine noise at idle. It is kind of a whistle yet it also has a kind of a ringing sound to it. I am thinking some kind of vacuum issue but I having trouble locating it because it is intermittent and not always present. It doesn't sound like a typical vacuum leak that I've experienced with any other car or truck. Also, the engine seems to run fine and once off idle the sound dissappers.

Has anyone out there run into this kind of noise on this engine ? Any sprecific area to start looking ?

Physically check each vacuum hose to make sure they are not cracked. I use wire ties as hose clamps on vacuum lines to make sure they don't leak.

Thanks, KimMG, That's what I'll do, but being intermittent, I have try to catch it when it's doing it. It seems to be doing it more as the weather is getting warmer (or whatever's causing it is getting worse).

Check your belts and pulleys. Might need some new belts or grease on your pulleys (especially if you go off-roading).

also make sure the hoses aren't too soft or to hard, the heat will make a hose expand and that could cause the whistle
