94 GT starts dies start dies

Starts up runs for about 5 minutes, dies. When dies, looses spark. Wait about 5 minutes, runs for about 30 seconds, looses spark and dies. This will repeat over and over. If engine is cold, will run for 5 minutes, then dies. 3100 v6. Any help appreciated. Does not loose total electric power, just spark. Thanks in advance. 134k miles, runs strong prior to cutting out.

Change the ignition module under the coils. Should correct the problem. The only other item that will cause these symptoms is the crank position sensor.

Is the ignition module testable?

Thanks again

Yes, I did this on my 2001 2.4L. It involves using a simple test light connected to the battery. Pull the plug on the module, the left (of 3) points of contact should remain lit with the key in the "on" position. The other 2 (depending on the size of your engine) will flash on and off when someone is cranking the engine (be careful!). This is fully documented in the Hayes manual. If you don't have one, buy it. It's worth the 15 or so dollars.

Re: 94 GT starts dies start dies

I have a 94 GA GT with the 3.1L. Had the same problem. Replaced the control module and didnt fix it. But I asked about it on here and i think it was GTP Dad said to check the Crank Position Sensor. Don't know if yours is the same prob, but the control module should be about $80 bucks. If you replace the CPS check to see if you have the 2 pin connecter or the 3 pin before you buy. Depends on which one you have to how much it cost. Should be some where between $17 and $36 depending on which one you need.

Still same problem

Replaced ignition control module, still dies, will replace crank sensor and see if that works.

Re: 94 GT starts dies start dies

Going to change crank position sensor, it looks pretty buried, is there some special secret to getting to it?
