Qualifying was certainly entertainig! Rubens almost pulled a surprise. Seems he has gotten to grips with the new car fairly quickly...

McLaren are N O W H E R E ! ! ! More than a second off the pole. Embarassing :D

Hope the Renaults make a good start again and pass both the McLarens and the Williams's (better yet if Coulthard takes out Montoya ... reciprocally :D)

I have a feeling that Williams-s will be strong in the race, so in anticipation of a good race,

Alex

MS on pole again, can Montoya get round him this time instead of trying to bulldoze his way through?

Read somewhere that this is another record occasion for Schumi, he is now the driver with the most starts for Ferrari...If you count the time he failed to complete a warmup lap due to mechanical failure;)

Nice race. Ferrari were just light years ahead of everyone. Williams disappointed a bit, especially Montoya. McLaren really need a miracle just to keep ahead of Renault and the pack.

Michael dominated the event. Irvine was a total @sshole when Rubens was passing him for a lap. Another boring race (well, half of it :)) from Kimi. That kid needs more agression (he never really attacked Montoya.

Now I'm even glad that Jos was let go from Arrows :p He's not embarrasing himself with that POS

Bridgestone seem to have improved drammatically over Malaysia. That's good.

Nothing much to say now, the race was not an eventful one, but I loved the result.

Jacque was a real hero and managed to finish 7th! In a BAR

Kimi - "almost" blew his engine - the team spotted an exhaust problem and called him in for safety reasons.

i really don't think coulthard is that good
if only villeneuve left for McLaren after the year after his championship year...
villeneuve and raikonnen would be an amazing team

young stars..

Well, Villneuve is anything but young, although he is rated quite highly as a driver (including by me - I don't like him, but he IS a good driver. And you just have to feel for the guy). Unfortunately, he only had two years in F1 hen he could be a contender for the championship. So we don't really see his full potential. I would rate him even 3rd or even 2nd as far as driving talent is concerned. But I have a feeling he lost his touch, that edge that you need to have to fight for the title. One tend's to forget what it feels like to be on top. I'm not sure he can do that again :(

that's true'
i remember some people talking about the pre-schumacher ferrari era
schumacher helped the team and brang it up to what it is now

villeneuve is kind of soft
he knows that car is not that great, yet he doesn't help the designers or comment about the car to the team officials

its too bad:(

MS & Co. were head and shoulders above the rest. Montoya had a bad, bad weekend, one he'll want to forget quickly...
EI was kinda hard on RB but Rubens should have passed him on the first corner, where Eddie DID leave him space. Rubinho just wasnt aggressive enough, he should have taken the opportunity. After that, Eddie could have really slowed down and let him go by, but Eddie being Eddie, he thought to himself "im not gonna get off the road for you to pass", which IMO is quite right.. besides, he pulled over when it was next suitable to do so.
Coulthard is severely underrated, some people forget the form he has showed in the past, the sheer number of times he has overtaken MS... he took pole on monaco last year in an inferior time... are you telling me thats an average driver?? when mikka was around he had the better equipment, engineers, everything. DC always had 2nd bets everything, no matter what stance McLaren took on #1 drivers.
Villeneuve is unlucky to be where he is but only has himself to blame for it. I rate him in the "Premier League" of F1 drivers, but he has simply thrown it all away.. he should have left BAR a long time ago, or tried to take the role MS took when reviving Ferrari. He simply couldnt be bothered. Talent-wise, he's one of the very very best... its a shame, there are a lot of great drivers in F1 right now but theyre not all driving great cars... only MS, RS and JPM are. GF, DC, and JV are not. oh yeah, and Nick Heidfeld should have been the one in the McLaren this year, not girlie-boy Raikkonen

cheers,
jay

Can't totally agree with you here. First of all, I can understand Rubens who doesn't want to risk the 2nd place he's fighting for lapping Eddie. That bloke can turn in on you and then sa something like - he was too far from me at the entry and ... blah blah. On the other hand, if you're being lapped, you move over. AS in you've already lost around 90 seconds so another second won't hurt anyhting, will it? Especially since Eddie was not fighting anyone on the track at the time. Reminds me of DC in Suzuka '99 when he held back MS but let Mika through. And he was being lapped. That's dirty in my book. Now the race before (Malaysia) Michael kept both McLarens behind to let Eddie pull away. The difference was that MS wasn't being shown any blue flags. Oh, and don't get me started on Spa '98!

JV did exactly what MIchael did. Well, tried to anyway. But he's obviously not Schumacher. Couldn't urn the team into a winner. Why - that I don't know. Maybe not wnough talent. Could JV be overrated? He did fight for the WDC in his first year, but Williams were SOOOOOOOO superior to the rest of the field! And in '97 he won it narrowly from MS in a car that was again far superior to Ferrari.

Or maybe he just didn't care. Should have taken the McLaren seat in '99 :p

As for Heidfeld, I really hoped that Sauber would be better than McLaren this year and he could shove it under Ron's nose! I still hope they will.
