Problem regarding starter

I’m looking at buying a 1980 chevrolet short wheel base truck, for a real good price for the condition that its in It has the 350 in it. But the problem is the starter bolts broke of and he tried to wallow one out with a drill bit but he made it to big. So the other ones still in there does anybody know some possibilities for it and if so what they think that it might cost to do. Any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated

Re: Problem regarding starter

I'd drill, tap, and helacoil. Just make sure you drill the hole perfectly straight.

to fix it right, the motor will need to come out. the hole that is wallowed out mite be a problem. you can use a helacoil or weld then drill and retap.

the other hole once the motor is out. you mite be able to get a easy out on it and take it out that way. tip use a left hand drill bit to drill the broken bolt some times the bit will grab and take the bolt right out.

use a drill press to get the holes strate. its the only way. trying to use a hand drill under the truck is how the other guy got the hole wallowed out.
