Automatic Transmission Flush- Safe for High Mileage?billqs 05-17-2005, 11:13 AM Hi! I'm really glad I found this forum. I was able to clean the EGR Valve and Port and replace spark plugs last week. I took my 97 Rodeo on a trip this last weekend and it functioned terrific. I'm still getting the CEL off and on, but it is running well. My next question was on the wisdom of getting a transmission fluid flush. My Rodeo has 147K miles and the last time fluid was flushed was when there was a transmission seal replaced about 80k miles ago. I was told at the time it was a "closed system that required no maintenance." They did check to make sure there was no leakage at regular intervals. I read on site that sometimes a flush is a bad idea for a high mileage Isuzu as the "gunk" may be helping to hold together parts of the transmission. Is this true? Or would replacing the transmission fluid be a good idea? Thanks Bill S. amigo-2k 05-17-2005, 11:40 AM I would just pull the lower plug and replace the 3ish quarts that come out yearly. A little fresh fluid will help it go at least another 100k. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
