'97 Jetta GT new owner

hey, I'm new to the whole owning of a VW and when I bought the car, there were a few problems with it(nothing major, I HOPE!)
1. The security system only engages from the passenger door. I was told that possibly the relay was bad? When I unlock the drivers door with the security system on, the security system goes off and the horn goes off.

2.Were all '97 Jetta GT's wired for the Clarion 6-Disc Changer? On the head unit there is premium sound and also the changer controls. I ripped out the carpeting in the back looking for a plug and no luck. Is there any specific place to look?

If anyone out there can please help it would be greatly appreciated. This being my first car EVER, I want to make sure it lasts a long time.
Thanks

I dont really understand what you are trying to say for the alarm problem. You should be able to activate and deactivate the alarm from the driver and passenger door locks by unlocking. If the red light is blinking on the driver door, the alarm is armed. When you unlock the driver door the light should turn off and the alarm is de-activated. If you unlock the door and the door unlocks and the light stays on there is a alarm problem. Either the door latch, door switch on b-pillar is faulty, or possibly the vacuum pump control module is bad. The easy way to check the pump is inside the trunk on the right side, peel back the carpeting and its in a small styrofoam box, just unplug it and see if the alarm can activate/de-activate properly. If the alarm does not de-activate when disconnected then its the latch or switch or possibly alarm control module/.

okay, i'll try to explain the door lock/alarm system problem a little clearer. In order to engage the security system i can ONLY use the passenger side. When i try to use the driver's side, it only locks the driver's side door and wont lock all the doors. also, when i engage the security system, the red light on teh drivers side doesnt blink to tell me that it is on. If i unlock the driver's side door while the security system is on, when i open the door, it sets the alarm off. I can't find the box you are talking about veedub, is it under a black circular piece? i hope this gives you a better understanding of the problem, sorry for being so vague the first time

Re: '97 Jetta GT new owner

If the alarm works from the pass side but not the driver's the the lock sensor on the driver door is bad or wires are broken (near the hinges).
