OK here is my problem
I have a '97 dakota with about 108K on it. It is a work truck it has the V6 with the 22 gal fuel tank. Now a few days ago I started it up it ran fine I pulled into a gas station, went in to pay, came out it started up sputtered and died, not to start again. After a little inspection I realized there was no sound from the fuel pump so there was my problem I dropped the fuel tank, disconnected the wires tested the voltage, with the ignition switch just turned on there was 12 volts for a second then nothing, like it should be. While cranking there was about 9.9 volts which should still run the pump. So I got a used pump (which works with 12 volts through it) but when connected to the wiring harness it doesnt pump then I tested the original pump and same thing (works with 12 volts through it. I think there is a short somewhere but I dont want to hunt down a short in one of a possible 100 wires if I dont have to. if anyone could help me it would be very much appreciated.

check to make sure you also have spark, it could be a bad ASD relay. If all is well, I'd check the ground for the fuel pump, make sure the ground wire mounted on the frame rail is tight and not corroded.

just a follow up the hot wire going to the pump was corroded along the frame rail I just bypassed the thing now works great
