i kinda agree with this, but anyway, i have (i know, its not a civic, but answering your question). however, this is with a v8 at like 6000rpm, and yeah, i wouldn't try to, it's probably out of any torque curve on a car without many many mods

Can't get past 65 in second??? You guys obviously haven't driven 6th gen hatchbacks :silly2: My hatch did an amazing 72mph in second, and a top-speed of 115mph in 3rd gear... that thing was geared like a peice of shit.

i beleive we were able to get 73 in my brothers CX and about 112 in 3rd. But it was a cx motor, that was burning oil so we didnt really care if it got blown. Actually we downshifted it into 2nd doing 80 and it was "interesting" experience. But nothing broke. Gotta love hondas. I wouldnt een try that in my baby, not untill i got the swap in the garage ready to be bolted in. hehe

The redline just tells u that uve got a little more tom to shift until the limter cuts ur fuel of before the engine gets damaged! Ok doing it with a not yet warmed up car isnt fine but with a warm car shouldnt be a prob!

the limiter hit 37 in 1st, 75 in 2nd when I had the CX motor and trans.

Do different cars act different near redline? Maybe its just me, but in my accord, I notice that once its past like 4500-5000, there is no more power gain. So what is the point of taking your engine up that far when you don't need to? Just causes stress on the engine and tranny

The redline tells you to shift! "till here and no further" the fuel cut off is there as a last resort to keep you from ruin your engine. It's RED for a reason.
At least that's how I think about it. I never rev my car past redline.

Actually, as interesting as it sounds, 6th gen Civics (even the autos) can get up to around 112mph in 3rd before the rev limiter kicks in and cuts the fuel. It's an amazing feat, but it can be done, and bone stock at that.

I don't know how fast in second, but in first I got it up to 40 mph. I imagine it would hit at least 70 in second. I drive an auto 5th gen EX coupe. It didn't even redline, it went to about 6800 rpm. Its cool, my auto will do both 1st and 4th at 40 mph :)

Redline is practically unachievable in my auto.

Auto Trans should be ruled out becuase they have much longer gears then 5 speed trans in that case my friends Jag could hit 55 in first gear
but its a auto and well thats high but for you to hit 60-65 in 2nd thats easy my datsun could do it with no problem

as far as the CX goes if I remember right that had a weird trans not like a norm 5 speed trans


anywho I can hit 68-70 in 2nd gear with my 95DX

and might I add thats with a GSR ECU that cuts off at 8100RPMS I will soon "I hope" get my ECU in and that will be a Civic SIR ECU that will redline at 8200RPMS so I should get an extra 1-2 MPH out of it so I might hit 71MPH in 2nd =)

the best feeling my honda gives me is when some one is trying to mess with me and Im right next to them doing 60MPH in 5th gear then down shift to 2nd and leave them behind way behind =)

actually I went 20 in 5th once, I was afraid I was gonna run out of gas so I popped it in 5th to coast down a hill to the gas station, lol.

I hit 112 in 3rd with my 99HB.... I normally NEVER go above 65mph in 3rd.

yeah that happened on the way up to HIN... me and OisinT were fuckin around him in his GSR and me in my civic... i went to drop shift into 4th... but pushed a lil to far and hit 2nd at 80.... saw the RPM hit 9 and the clutch was already in...

we'll just say i stopped soon and let her cool off for a bit... scared the shit outta me

I just got a tranny put in my civic and it will do 41 in first and 77 in second.

most and i stress most (not all) cars will only do a hair over 60 in second gear. this is called the great magazine conspiracy. car companies are so worried about magazine tests that its now common to gear the car for the second to third shift right after 60 so they can achieve better 0-60 times. less shifting equals a faster 0-60....believe me if you want but its the truth.

Yah I was wrong about that si I thought they kept the b16. My bad about that. But I am a veteran I just couldnt get my name back. Anyways Im not here to make enemy's. me and my friend rented a 2001si and we took it to almost 40 in 1st. it was loud...and bumpy. heh reving like 8000 then the limiter kicked in...it was a rough ride.
