95 jimmy/HVAC problem

I have a friend of mine whose jimmy is having lots of problems. the CPI is shot and i think the EGR needs to be cleaned. Any way the major problem he wants to deal with now is that the AC and heat doesn't work. i checked the fuse ands all's good there. he said that sometimes it will come on and then it will just shut off. if you turn the switch it sounds like you can here the vacum working. is there any way to test the fan speed switch?

It almost sounds like the freon is too low. There is a low pressure switch somewhere in the system usually on the accumulator (big silver canister), which is normally by the passenger's side fender wall in the engine compartment. It might also be a bad connector to this same switch or a bad switch itself. My daughter's 95 Chev Pick-up 4.3L just had the same problem last week. We ended up replacing the actual low pressure switch itself. One way to test it is to GENTLY wiggle the Harness/Connector right at the switch and see if it kicks on or stays on. The other thing that I learned was that this switch can be removed without loosing all of the freon in the system, as it has the tire valve type (Schrader valve?) valve under the switch.

When it does run, is the air cold?

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

i kinda knew about the ac not working. the problem is the fan doesn't even run either postion. heat or cold. it will run and you shut the truck off and later turn the truck back on and it doesn't work.

I have had those blower fans crap out on me before. Unplug the fan at the connector and run a hot jumper wire straight from the battery to the connector to see if the fan itself works. I'm not sure how the fan assembly is grounded but check to see if the ground is good. If all checks out good I'd look at the switch.

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

Will the fan run in the high position.

If it only runs in high, the resistor pack is shot.

If not, the switch is bad or the blower motor is shot.

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

see thats the thing. you leave it all turned on and its running. turn the key off and turn it back on and it doesn't work. keep in mind that i didn't touch the controls. just turning the key of and back on stoped it. fuse is also good.

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

it will work in all the settings(when its working), AC,Heat,Hi, Lo, the ac doesn't work because of a low charge.

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

I am talking about the FAN, not the CONTROLS.

Your first post states your FAN doesn't work properly.

Re: Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

Had the same issue with my Bravada, and it was the blower motor itself, not the resistor pack or the controls. It would do the same thing - work until you shut the vehicle off, start it back up and the blower wouldn't come back on until it was damn good and ready. $65 for a blower motor fixed my issue.

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

It is the switch or the blower motor itself.

Blower motor more than likely.

Re: 95 jimmy/HVAC problem

if you hit where the blower is it will work. i think its the blower motor or a wire to it.

because its my truck he's talking about. fan runs in any position>turn key off and then back on again a sec later>fan doesn't run. BUT if if you pop the hood a hit the fan housing it clicks back on. there is a bad ground on the fan side of the connector.
