427 Tall Block?

Is there such thing as an 427 tall block? If so, what makes it a tall block?

It's a 427 tall deck. It was used from 68 to 86 in trucks. It has a taller deck height than the passenger style.

This is the distance from the crankshaft center to the 'deck'.
The 'deck' is what the cylinder head sits on.
The 427 tall deck engines (used in medium and heavy trucks, generally not pick - ups) were about 1 inch taller than the 427 car and light truck engines. This was done for durability reasons. However, it means that many automotive high performance parts, like pistons and intake manifolds will not fit.
However, there is at least one company making hi-po pars for the tall deck engines. Even through they weigh more, their greater strength gives them a durability advantage over regular engines.
Geneally, though, they are worth much less money than the 427 automotive blocks.

So.......maybe i'm not fully understanding here. The deck is part of the block so does this mean you have a longer stroke? I s the tall deck the same width as the automobile 427 version?
