how far have you been over redline?Quetzolcotl 04-10-2002, 09:31 PM state what car/engine you have and miles. was the car ok or did it act up somehow? I've never had my own car above redline. My brother runs his '91 crx about 500 rpm over frequently and the car is fine. i've had my girlfriends gs-r 500 over and it's fine too and it has 240,000 miles on it. Rice-Rocketeer 04-11-2002, 02:12 AM The car's "redline" is just an imaginary number. It's just telling you that the ECU will give you another 500 rpm to shift before it engages the fuel cutoff and prevents the engine from revving any higher to prevent engine damage. Meaning you're not supposed "bounce off redline" because it's just there to help idiot proof your engine. Basically you would have to be an idiot to rev your car to redline often and expect it to last very long. If the car is a low mileage car, it won't last beyond 100,000 miles and if it has 240,000 miles, I can garautee you it wasn't by driving it like that. CivicEx95 04-11-2002, 05:39 AM Fuel cutoff on my car is 7400, so thats the farthest I've gone. Never misshifted and gone to 9K like some people have done  sparq 04-11-2002, 06:56 AM Only 500 over redline? You wimps... I dump the clutch off the line at 6900 rpm and run right upto cutoff all day every day :finger: :lol2: JayFidizzy 04-11-2002, 09:02 AM could that be why you had to change your throw out bearing?? :flipa: Just kidding!! :bloated: CivSiGuy 04-11-2002, 09:14 AM I whacked 8500 once, nothing too major. HamsterStyle 04-11-2002, 10:58 AM I gotta go with Sparq. But that's probably why I just put a new tranny and clutch in my car. Oh well I needed better parts anyways so may as well trash the old ones. :smoka: civicx_xracer 04-12-2002, 01:00 AM I accidentally shifted from the top of third into second once-pegged about 9000...that sucked!! Darkwing 04-12-2002, 01:02 PM I drive an auto. nuff said. pric 04-12-2002, 01:09 PM If the car is a low mileage car, it won't last beyond 100,000 miles and if it has 240,000 miles, I can garautee you it wasn't by driving it like that. 92 civic/D16Z6/ redline 7200 rpm's revlimiter 7500 rpm's I bought the car used in 96 with only 80K miles on it and I've bounced off the revlimiter several times and the car has 236k miles on it now and the only thing I've done to the car is changed the oil and the timing belt at the recomended intervals and the car is problem free.
