From 4x4parts.com:
"We now have new ring and pinion sets available for the Xterras and Frontiers.
For 31" tires we have 4.875 ring and pinion for the V-6 at $450.00 per end.
For 32"-33" tires we have 5.142 ring and pinion for the V-6. The 5.142 ring and pinion for V-6 are $450.00 for the front and $625.00 for the rear. This includes the necessary pieces and modifications for fitting this R&P into the rear of the Frontier/Xterra with V-6.

These have been tested on the Xterra. They work very well with front and rear ARB air lockers."

I didn't really think the stock gearing was so bad with my 32's. If anything, I'd go with the 4.875 and save a couple hundred bucks. Any idea why the rear end for the 5.142 is so much more?

it's bad when driving through the mountains for me. my auto sometimes has to downshift to second to even try and keep up any speed. wish i had the money for this. where's the sugar momma i keep wishing for. ;)

Yeah, going up long (mountain) grades, I do have to shift around a bit, but thankfully I have a 5 speed, so at least I can find a good gear. I would hate to think how my highway fuel economy would get worse with higher gearing, though.

The 5.142 rear set apparently requires some modifications to fit, hence the extra cost.
