Surging at Idle- 2000 4 cyl.

My 2000 4 cyl Camry sometimes has a slight surging at idle. Enough to bounce the tac about 200 rpm. This is intermittant. Some days its ok. My question... is some sensor failing or something need cleaning? The car has 90k. Thanks for help.

I had a similar problem with my 89 Camry. Turned out the Coolant Temperature Sensor was bad. $45 dollar (Canadian) fix, and 10 minutes of my time.

Hello, do you have the air conditioning on in your car when you have these rpm surges. right before the AC compressor kicks on the rpm of the engine increases around 200 rpm's then returns to normal when the AC compressor kicks off. it is designed to do this because of the extra load the compressor puts on the engine. only thing I can think of. hope this info helps. good luck with your car.
