98 lumina poor braking?

1998 lumina car ,base model without abs. 65000 miles. it has poor braking. replaced pads with no luck. shady tree guy replaced pads again with racing pads? car stopping power is poor . it takes a long distance to come to a stop.. any advice appreciated. what pads and shoes, etc would you recommend?? . thanks. jim.

When I get serious about brakes I go to NAPA. Get their premium pads/shoe and take my rotors and drum along. Have them machined, even if looking pretty good. Then I know if the brakes aren't up to snuff it's something else causing the problem. Be sure to lube the caliper slider bolts and bushings, or buy new ones, so the caliper can move freely back and forth.

Also, surprised there is a 98 model GM car without ABS. Learn something every day on here.
