i can't believe this deal I found, a black 2000 GTS with only 36K miles for $11K!! go look on eBay and autotrader.com, people are asking 14-15 for a GTS with 80K+ miles! HAHA i had no idea what to expect when I slid behind the wheel, but it far exceeded my expectations, this thing is SICK !! I passed 2 semis....in 5th gear, no sweat!! I love feeling the VVT kick in at 6200 rpm (or whatever), sweeet!

i live in a small town, and there's probably about 3 other 7th-gen celicas in the whole county, so i see a LOT of heads turning, and a lot of jealous drivers who tailgate me and try to pass LOL =) oh it came with 16" American Racing wheels on it (with z-rated Kumhos), they are nice-looking 6-spoke alloys, do those come stock?

Anyways now that i'm done bragging... working 2 jobs sucks, really cuts down on the free time but i'll have it paid off in a little over a year. Also the last owner was apparently a heavy smoker (newports too! yuk!), so it smells funny and there's some stains on the ceiling fabric near the drivers window. Also sometimes when I shift from 2nd to 3rd there's a grinding feeling, would that be the clutch or tranny?

i live in florida and there are freaking 7th gens all over the map

a bunch of gurls with them cuz their rents bought them

there are like 5 alltrac [GT4s], three reds, one silver, and one black, get this three of them belong to one guy, one's mine and the other i just always see driving aroung with a university of Florida sticker on it

i get a real kick out of it when the guys around here driving the 7gens, see me on the highway are like oo an old one i'm faster than that and try to pass me, i just gas it they hear the turbo [usually i'll clutch a little so they get blow off too] and i fly away lol

No, those wheels do not come stock. And that grinding is probably your synchros going bad.

VVT does not kick in at 6200rpm's.. VVT (Variable Valve Timing) is always working. What you are talking about is known as "lift" to us 7th gen people.. hence VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing with Lift and Intelligence) and yes this kicks in at 6200rpm's. :)

I hear a lot of people messing up the valves on the 2ZZs from miss shifting. Is it just cuz they are driving it hard or is it a common thing from bad drivers? Cuz I'm planning on getting a 2ZZ, but I don't want to find myself bending valves all the time or something like that.

No, it's not from driving hard.. it's from driver error. I've done it once.. it's easy to do if you have the pre-'02 transmission with the narrow shift gates. When I miss-shifted I was topping out 3rd gear at 8400rpms and tried to throw it into 4th really fast.. but it ended up in 2nd.. let off the clutch and the engine revved to around 11k rpms or so causing the bent valves.

yikes. So if I drive it normal and shift at more economical RPMs I shouldn't run into any problems as long as I'm not shifting into the wrong gear right?

You can rev high all you want... just don't shift into the wrong gear :)

There's a guy on newcelica.org that miss-shifted a while back. He had titanium valves/valve springs/retainers. When he miss-shifted it revved to 12k rpms and all he broke was his clutch :)

lol, nice. so the 2ZZs are still built like a toyota, made for taking the punishment :iceslolan Cuz I was under the impression that these motors were kind of fragile. Even if they are im still planning on getting one sometime this summer :p
