1997 Water hose popped off manifold HELP010175 05-05-2005, 01:59 AM I need help real bad and fast. I have a 5.7 with a 175,000 well care for miles on it. A water hose popped off the top right side of the intake manifold tonight. It has a clip on it and what looks like a rubber O ring. What made it pop off and what is the best fix for it? I don’t want it to pop off again. Any helpful ideas are needed. My son was driving and the engine reached 280 before he got it home. Could 280 degrees cause other problem that I should be looking out for? Thanks Dave pies 05-05-2005, 08:03 AM i think anyone who owns a chevy will have this problem sooner or later. it is a cheap push in connector for the heater, the piece in the intake is made out of alumunin and errodes and then the line pops out. go to automotive store and get a half in pipe to five eighths hose fitting and a piece of heater hose and replace everything. double check , some of these had three quarters hose on them in stead of five eighths 010175 05-05-2005, 09:40 PM Thanks to all who helped me with this problem? I went to GM and bought the nipple this morning. I was very careful to use the right size box end wrench to remove the bad nipple out of the manifold. When I tried it of coarse broke off in the manifold. I then tried to remove the broken part out of the manifold. I did not have an easy out and not enough time to go get one so I found a taper sharp edged punch that I used. When I taped the punch in the hole it broke a dog-ear part off the manifold. Nice job Dave. I was finally able to pick and punch the old nipple out. I then used a pipe tap and put thirds deeper in the manifold. I was able to put the new nipple in with about two threads below the dog-ear broken manifold. I put it all back together and it did not seam to leak out of the broken area. The moral of the story is be very careful and always use the right tools for the job. Thanks again……. Dave Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
