Dakota enginemoses329 04-23-2005, 03:50 PM I have a 1993 Dakota ext. cab and i was wondering if i could put a .318 and bolt it straight to the stock tramsmission is it possible? wehswarriorS-10 04-24-2005, 09:15 AM which engine do you have??? BleedDodge 04-24-2005, 03:54 PM Must be the six if he has the extended cab. It is possible yes. moses329 04-24-2005, 09:29 PM yeah i have a 3.9L with alot of miles on it. so i can use the current stock transmission and drivetrain with the .318 BleedDodge 04-24-2005, 11:40 PM Yes. theFREAKnasty82 04-25-2005, 04:15 AM do you have an auto or manual? If auto, the tranny for the V6 doesn't have the strength to handle to torque of a 318. moses329 04-25-2005, 04:51 PM so what transmission do i need to get and how much? theFREAKnasty82 04-25-2005, 10:54 PM your V6 tranny is designated 42RH or A-500 transmission. You'll need an A-518 or 46RH to work with a 318. As far as getting it, you can pick one up at a junkyard for around $500 or you can buy a new unit for around $1100. BleedDodge 04-26-2005, 08:43 PM The transmission will work, you just can't reef on it. troy1 04-26-2005, 08:52 PM Alot of 96 & new dakota with a 5.2L come with the 42RE it will work fine might want to change out the torque converter with the right stall for the V8 thats all. I would be a good thing to do anyway with High mileage dodge.
