Unhappy starting problems

have a volvo 240 , k- reg torslanda will not start , with key in ignition all lights on the dash board are lit up raido works , wipers work , but nothing happens when key is turned to start , can bump start the car , have been told to check the fuses for bad connection, done this they are fine . cleaned cables and wire to the alternator , this does not help , any thoughts on this problem would help

I have the same exact problem. Im thinking it is the starter relay but not sure. I dont know where the starter relay is located.

If you can start the car by jumping it, I would look at the battery. When you jump start the car you are using the exact same system components that you would use normally, so you can rule out the complicated stuff. However, I have seen a starter go bad, and still be able to jump start the car, the extra power from another battery will turn it over. First, take out the present battery in the car and have it checked. If its good then remove the starter and have it checked. Pay close attention to how much AMPS it pulls, usually good to compare it to a new starter off the shelf. Any auto parts store should be able to do this for you. Good luck.
