epc light

I have a 2000 jetta vr6 glx manual and last night an "EPC" light turned on in my dash and I have no idea what that meant.. not only that but when I turned off the car then tried turning it back on it started and then shut off... it did that twice and has been running fine ever since with the light off...

I was wondering if anyone can explain to me exactly what was happening last ngiht with my car based on the situation given. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

EPC light is an emissions light, only comes on if your emissions are being effected (misfires) or can also come on for a baulty brake light switch. Pretty much a check engine light.

when you run a scan of the cpu on a car. there are hard codes and soft codes. reffered differntly some times. the soft codes are codes that trip a light but then are fixed by the computer as it makes it rounds of frequent scans. when you scan a vehicle there will be a record of all codes.
