There should be a little slot where you would stick your key to reset the maintainence reminder back to green

Yes, it's just a reminder to change the oil & filter.I believe it goes to yellow every 2500 miles and to red every 3000 miles. I have a 6th gen accord (98-02) and that's when they started to use the flashing "maintainence light"

Please clearify, where is the slot that I insert a key into; or, do I insert the key in a slot near the ignition switch? Is the key my ignition key? In other words, where exactly is the slot?

Sorry for the seemingly stupid questions. :shakehead

Did you look in your manual? My sixth gen has reset instructions in the manual.

right next the the red/yello/green color that is showing. the slot should be a lil black(small) opening in ur guage cluster, shove your key in there and the red colored tape should flip to green~!

any key would work, a screwdiver would work, just somthing that fits in the lil slot!

You would really be surprise at the information found in an Owner's Manual!! :screwy:

IN my 2002 Accord manual it states that I must hold down the Select/Reset button on the instrument panel until the Mtc req'd light goes out.
:uhoh:

I learned a lesson here. In the future I'll read the Owner's Manual first then do a search here.
Thanks everyone.

Starting with the 6th generation (98-02) accords, they used a flashing maintainence light. That's where you hold the select/reset button while turning the car to the on position for 10 seconds. After that light goes out, you turn the car off then start the car and you should be fine.

In the previous models, 5th generation (94-97), 4th generation (90-93) an so on, there's a slot right next to the green/yellow/red maintainence reminder. That's where you would put a small key/screwdriver in it to reset the reminder back to green. It'll flip back to green the same way the tripometer(?) resets back to zero when press the reset button

But what does that indicator do? Just show you it's time to get an oil change?
But it changes from green to red every 7500 miles...

not necassarily an oil change, anything that is programmed up to that indicator that needs maintenance done!

Whoa! Nothing is "programmed" to that indicator. It's driven on mileage alone.

So what does it do? It shows you you've gone another (say) 7500 miles since the last time it was reset!!

Correct. It just shows you've gone another 7500 miles since the last time you reset it. Which is a reminder to change your oil. Also if anything else falls within that service interval to maintainence that also. For example, belts, hoses, brake pads, wiper blades, etc. You'll have to inspect those items and if necessary, replace them. But many people (such as myself) don't go by that indicator. I have my oil changed every 2 months and change my brake pads every year.

Won't you get the engine mess up for not having an oil change every 3000-3500 miles??

they make oil now that requires an oil change 5000, 7500, or 15000 miles

Well, I change my oil every 3 months, sometimes every 2.5 months. but the maintainence light is only a service reminder, nothing more.
