ABS relays/Location?

I need to know the exact location of the ABS relays on my 97 GLX. I was searching for them along with the 5A cruise control fuse. They are all supposedly mounted on the Auxillary Relay Panel, that is supposedly mounted "above the main relay/fuse panel". I have completely removed my interior, including the knee bar, the instrument cluster, etc.. and have only found a panel that has one relay (stamped 175) and two 30A fuses on it mounted above the relay panel on the firewall. The only other things there are the ground tap (brown, on the left wall) and the Airbag controller (silver, above and behind the ground tap).

If anyone has any GOOD advice as to the location of these extremely deceptive items on my car, please share it. So far, all attempts to provide advice (including the VW dealership in town) have been unsuccessful. Some guy on VWVortex told me that he used to work on VW/Audi and had this same problem. Apparently there was like 1 guy doing all the wiring for these cars, and when something didn't fit where it was supposed to, he just stuck it somewhere else. I have exhausted all measures that I can think of to locate these relays.

Are you joshin me? I own the Bentley manuals. The manual's wiring diagram clearly shows ABS relays. One for valves and the other for the pump. And I f'in for sure know there is a problem with the ABS. Not stupid, please don't reply as such. And, your offer is kind, but I've decided to just turn off the ABS and call it a day. Another thing, the whole internal short causing the light to come on thing is a little Absurd and in left field. I've absolutely never heard of that happening, and I am an electronics technician who works on digital level electronics (that use LEDs as indicators) for a living. You have given out some good advice before. Where the hell did this crap come from?

Re: ABS relays/Location?

I don't know of any (under-dash) relays in the ABS system, the "relay" function of turning on & off the pump motor & solenoid valves is an internal function of the module. Mitchell refers to them as being on the aux relay panel, but that's incorrect. Also, if the dash ABS light bulb circuit is shorted or open it will set a code 1203. The most common problem w/this system is a failed module.

Re: ABS relays/Location?

I also have a problem with my ABS module (I think). I have not seen the abs relay.

Re: ABS relays/Location?

There was a guy somewhere on this forum advertising that he rebuilds the modules. Do a Google search on "VW Passat ABS rebuild".
