Headlight Motor Gear

I'm sure most firebird owners have had the gear of their headlight motor become stipped. I was wondering if it would be better to buy a replacement gear, like the metal ones found on ebay. Or to buy a whole new or used motor? I know replacing the gear would be cheaper, has anyone here done it and how tough was it?

Re: Headlight Motor Gear

I changed mine to the bronze one's and its not too bad. I figured it was better to do it right once than having to do it over like 3 times in a couple years. The bronze ebay gears come with step by step instructions and is not that hard even for a novice and it will save you the trouble of having to worry about doing it again down th road. Good Luck

I haven't had to replace mine yet. I will get the brass gears when I do though.

Re: Headlight Motor Gear

Like formula I replaced one of my gears with bronze. Also check your rubber stops on the headlights worn stops will cause your light to bounce even after gear replacement.
