Going to ask a question that will probably get me flamed, but I would appreciate some serious input.

Little back ground first. American military living on Okinawa in Japan. Looking for a car to build when I get home. Thought about the Cressida. I will ship parts ahead of me. Will be building a Nissan, but would like to build a Toyota also. Just has to be cost effective (i.e. not sink thousands into something that couldnt be sold if I wanted to get rid of it).

Now my question. What is the block cast for the 3.0 Cressida? Is this the same cast as the 2jz? Yes, thats where I am going.
Reason I ask, if its the same cast, then I could ship all the internals (if needed) and intake, turbos, ecu, etc. to duild a 2jz in a cressida, and save a few hundred pounds on shipping weight costs. If I have to ship the whole engine, I would probably go witha 1jz beacause its cheaper (less sought after). But if I can get away with only top end, then 2jz it would be.

I've seena few cressidas and crestas built up here, and I like them a lot. total sleepers. Big car to drift, but have seen some really good ones with some very talented drivers. Can make them a lot lighter by removing luxury items, and get a total weight thats not that bad.

Anyone built up cressidas in the states? Any pics or links?

The cressida has the 7MGE or something I think, isn't the 2Jz a whole different 3.0 inline 6? Anyways If I were you I could just buy the whole Twin Turbo 2JZ with the 6 speed and the bolt it in, that woudlbe pretty rad. the 1 JZ would be cheaper, but either way Idon't know how in gods name you will pass smog. You could try putting in the Turbo version of the MKIII's supra engine, you know the 7MGTE or whatever with a 5speed, I thin kit is the ame motor but with a turbo, correct me If I am wrong, but it has lots of mods out for it and is relatively cheap to upgrade and maintain.

I really dont know if its a whole different motor or not. I havent looked hard enough to find things like main crank and cam journal sizes, or even bore and stroke for that matter of the two engines. All I know is its a 3.0 like the 2jz.

To be honest I am showing my ignorance on toyota motors here. The supra hasnt had the following like the nissan cars have, simply because of pricing. Its way cheaper to build a nissan than a toyota. Kinda like ford and chevy back in the states. I like fords better, but I built a few chevies simply because it was cheap to do.

I like the cressida, and I would really like to build a toyota when I get back. That would be the ultimate sleeper car, and could even take it grocery shopping.

But after searching around, someone made mention in a earlier (way earlier) post that the block was the same as a 1jz in the earlier cressidas. can anyone verify this?

cressidas come out with a 5M-E engine before 91 and a 7M-GE after 91 the easiest way to do it would be to throw a 1JZ-GTE in as both the 5m and 7m are 2995cc in displacment and both are inline 6 cylinders but the 1JZ-GTE is 2495cc in displacment twin turboed twin cam, also the 1JZ is a much stronger engine and doesnt suffer from blowing head gaskets or the head it's self as the 5m and 7m series do

actually the 5mge is a2.8l engine onle the 7mge is 3.0l. the best way to go without spending alot of money like you perviously said you didnt want to to, is either go with the 6mge which is a 3.0l turbo or you could try the 1GGTE which is twin turbo 2.0L inline six. i have one im my 85 cressida its REAL HARD to beat . plus the cressida came with that motor in japan (1ggte) so you wont have to worry about the whole motor mount or will it even fit problem. well good luck
