Unhappy Starter Clicks when trying to start.

1997
Chevy Z71

Question: I have a 97 chevy with 70K miles on it. I am having a problem with the starter. When you try to start it with the key the starter clicks. The battery is good all other electrical items work fine. The Starter itself is good. The only way we can get it to start is by running a jumper wire directly from the battery to the starter itself and then it will fire off but with out the jumper clicks when trying to start from the ignititon. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this and what suggestions would you have for a fix.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You say the syater is good, is it new? my first guess would be cellnoide. If you test the battery it should be charged to 13.27 or higher. If you run it and shut it off will it still do the same thing? Alternator isn't charging enough?

same problem

I have a 98 Silverado with 120k miles on it. My truck has been in prim condition until yesterday. I started the truck fine, before I left my house. Then I realized I had left something I needed inside, so I cut the truck off and got what i needed from inside. When I got back in the truck It would do nothing but click when I attempted to start it. I assume it is the starter being that the alternator has been replaced less than 3 months ago and the Battery is in good condition. Any help in getting it started or what kind of repair bill im looking at would be greatly appreciated.
