Starting Issue On S-10 Extreme - HELP !!!!!

I have a 2000 Chevy Extreme. My Truck will not start randomly on occasion. When I turn the ignition I get dash lights, I hear the fuel pump turn on but I get no voltage to the starter. I verified I am getting 12V to the starter just fine. HERE IS WHERE IT GETS WEIRD.. When it will not start if I tap on the brake, it will start!!!!! It is more likley NOT to start when it's parked on a incline also.. WEIRD EH??? Sometimes I have to tap harder and longer then other times but it will start. I replaced the starter, same issue, I replaced the ignition saftey switch, same issue. the ONLY thing in my thoughts it could be is the ignition switch but on several occasions when it wouldn't start I have beat the living hell out of the collum to see if it would kick, NADA.

ANY IDEAS ??? I am thinking it's an electrical issue.

Thanks,
Allen Mance

Have you checked all the wires under the steering column for good connections, bare wires, etc.? The reason I say this is that maybe pushing the brakes will push the brake arm away from a bare wire that is touching it. When it is on an incline, the wire may touch the brake arm easier, allowing it not to start. Just a thought, but not likely as it seems you are somewhat mechanically inclined and have checked this yourself.

Your poor stearing columb!

my guess is the same as yours the ignition switch.

beating on teh columb wouldn't likely affect the switch it's self

good luck

Does the starter click at all when it won't start.

Take a voltmeter out and check the voltage when running and when parked overnight.

Mine does this... check your battery cables/connections. Mine was corroded causing it to arc and sometimes not start, yet all the gauges and fuel pump would work.
