CD Player broken

In my stock 1997 Tahoe cd player, I will put in a cd and about 5 seonds later it displays "Err" on the little screen. (I assume this is a short meaning error...?) Has anyone had the same problems? Does anyone have any suggestions on fixing it, besides buying a new head unit, which I plan to do after I fix everything on it right now...rear end just went out...thanks

Re: CD Player broken

Was it a burned cd? If so, has it played before or was it recently burned? If recently made, was it closed and what format are the songs? The player should read mp3's fine, but it might have problems with .wav or .wma files. Other possibilities is the unit was hot from use, the lens or cd is/was dirty, or you put the disc in upside down????

Just had this happen last November. I thought I tried everything until I tried the following: with power to the CD player (engine on or turn to "accessory" position), hold a CD with your forefinger IN the center hole, insert the CD into the CD player about 1/4 or 1/3 in and hold it there for about 4 to 5 seconds, then pull it back out. I did that twice and it's been working again ever since. Don't know how it fixed it but it did.
