i just bought a 1995 ford taurus gl for my mom with about 141,570 miles on it. since i dont have the previous maintenance records im going to just go get an oil change this weekend on it. the engine isnt leaking or making any weird sounds and every thing looks and feels good. i was wondering what kind of transmission fluid it uses and also what oil people here recommend for this vehicle. it will be her daily driver and she lives in northern virginia.

Any brand name oil and filter will give you satisfactory service. Most important is regular changes and upkeep. I think that most of us have yet to see the advantage of buying and using "high mileage" oils. The clerk at Wal-Mart told me that their Tech brand is Chevron oil and it's only 97c a qt.
