Angry Last Friday I had a Dianostics done on my Taurus and here are the codes they found.

1. P0401 EGR Insufficient flow detected
2. P0402 EGR excessive flow detected

Can anybody tell me what parts are need to take care of this problem?

Would be useful to know the year/mileage of your car (though not really necessary), but it's apparent from the codes that you have a '96 or newer. You quite probably need a new DPFE sensor; only buy this from your Ford dealer; don't get an aftermarket part. Around $80-$90; the swap is fairly straightforward if you can do things like changing spark plugs. If you don't have a Haynes or Chilton book, I recommend purchasing one ($15) as it will walk you through this operation.

1997/145000 The Tech at midas told me that I would have to change some EGR system components because of the rich smell of my gas mixture.

The DPFE sensor is an EGR component. Actually, I've heard some people call it the "EGR valve sensor." A bad EGR valve is a possibility, and at your mileage it wouldn't hurt to change both, but it is possible to test your EGR valve. But failing DPFE sensors are *remarkably* common on these cars, and they are a frequent cause of P0401.

In any event, removal and cleaning of the valve isn't going to hurt, if it's something you'd like to try to tackle. Again, the Haynes book will help you in removing/reinstalling the parts; then, for cleaning advice, I would recommend you search online and in the forums at TaurusClub.com.

Not really sure what you're referring to. The DPFE sensor is one thing.

The Haynes Guide is telling me that the DPFE EGR system consists of the EGR valve, the EGR vacuum solenoid, the back pressure sensor thats what the book says, I'm looking at it right now as I type this reply

Re: Last Friday I had a Dianostics done on my Taurus and here are the codes they found.

The DPFE is what they are referring to as the backpressure sensor. This is what tells the PCM what position the EGR is in. The vent solenoid releases vacuum to the valve to shut it off.
