Start in second gear?

Hey Dudes, I'm just getting used to my 2000 Chevy 2500 and it appears to have been set up with fairly low gearing. 1st gear seems to last on the flat for about one or two seconds only. I've found that second gear seems to make much more sense to start with. Is this a bad thing? Am I somehow causing unnessecary stress on the truck or is this a stupid question? Also, It came with a bench seat. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the tilt back option. Is their any way around this? Can I mess around with it's hardware for a more layed back ride? Thanks

Re: Start in second gear?

Starting off in second gear is fine as long as your are not slipping the clutch to do it.

I know dodges are the same way. My buddy has an 00 or 01 diesel, he never uses 1st, it lasts amount, as you said, 1 to 2 seconds.
