Exhaust manifold porting?Urban_Squrill 03-30-2005, 01:16 PM I have to take off my exhaust manifold to replace the downpipe gasket and the one that hooks to the head. I was thinking if I am taking it off anyway I could take my dremel and port it out(is that how you do it?). Would it do anything at all or anything? EVOclipse 03-30-2005, 01:42 PM the gains would be REALLY minimal...youd be better of buying a new one. i got a cheap chrome one with the downpipe for 100$ off ebay. its not a whole lot of gain but its alot lighter than the steel ones i just took off Urban_Squrill 03-30-2005, 01:47 PM I will probly just paint it them. gthompson97 03-30-2005, 01:56 PM you have to use special 1500 degree paint made for headers and manifolds. Urban_Squrill 03-30-2005, 03:26 PM Would ceramic engine enamle work? drewh4386 03-30-2005, 03:41 PM Would ceramic engine enamle work? if it is within the heat range, then yes. IF not it will burn up and steam itself away. kjewer1 03-30-2005, 05:36 PM Even within the products heat range, the paints wont last. Between the expansion/contraction cycles, the fact that cast iron is 99% rust, etc, it just doesnt stick long. Porting mildly can help a little, but its not like you'll feel the difference. A dremel wont do much, a die grinder is much better. Either a pnumatic one (prefered), or a good electric one. Just gasket match the runners about an inch or two in (will also help reduce reversion) and knife edge the divider in the collector (dont remove it). Hardly worth it, but it doesnt hurt.
